Symptoms During Depressive Episode

  • Those suffering from depressive episode are easily angered and feel irritable.
  • Symptoms such as withdrawal, disinterest in mingling with friends and others, problems with self-esteem, and even suicidal thoughts.

Symptoms of Manic Depression

  • Some people also experience problems with sleep and even eating disorders (eating too much or too less).
  • Other problems include difficulty in concentrating or focusing on one thing, problems in the relationship, lack of interest in things that are usually considered their interests, decrease in sexual drive, and indifference to oneself and self care.

Symptoms During Manic Episode

  • The symptoms during this episode are characterized by extremely elevated moods and energy. During manic period, there will be increased levels enthusiasm, confidence, and a feeling of exuberant energy for activity.
  • This energy is also seen in the way they talk and behave, as if they are on to something very big. Their attention span is low, and their mind and thinking is fast, and almost whimsical (such as going on a money spending spree).
  • Sexual drive during this period is usually very high, their behavior aggressive, and are prone to excessive alcohol consumption and substance abuse.

Mixed Symptoms

Some people might also experience states with mixed symptoms of both depressive and manic episodes. During such episodes, they usually find themselves overly enthusiastic with thoughts and ideas flowing rapidly, and at the same time depressed, which results in inaction. This can lead to frustration and feelings of uselessness, and further depression.

Recognizing the symptoms, improving awareness of your feelings, analyzing them and working on them in a positive manner, can help reduce the effects of the
